I would have gotten this up sooner, but was out of town when UW announced that Emily Neal has transferred in from Colorado State.
Neal is a 5-foot-9 guard from Minneapolis who will sit out the upcoming season per NCAA rules and then have two years of eligibility remaining.
Last year she was the fifth-leading scorer (4.8 ppg) — and usually a reserve — on a Rams team that went just 4-28. But Neal did have 17 points to lead CSU to an upset of Utah in the Mountain West Conference tournament.
Neal had better numbers as a freshman (6.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg). No word on whether Neal is going to be on scholarship or a walk-on, though I have an e-mail in to UW regarding that.
Here's what UW coach Lisa Stone had to say on Neal: "We are excited to add Emily to our Badger family. Emily brings a solid basketball knowledge and is a student of the game. She is a strong fundamental player who will add depth to our perimeter. She can step out and shoot the three, as well as drive to the basket."
Numbers game: According to the roster posted on uwbadgers.com, Neal will wear No. 3.
Here are the numbers for the Badgers' four incoming freshmen: 00 for Jade Davis, 1 for Jamie Russell, 23 for Ashley Thomas and 40 for Anya Covington.
