Sophomore transfer Tom Bardis and freshman Chris Hickey will be in the lineup Friday when the Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team hosts Michigan Tech at the Kohl Center.
Coach Mike Eaves said Thursday that forwards Michael Davies and Podge Turnbull were being held out of the lineup because of a "50-50" combination of injuries and performance issues.
With Ben Grotting also out this weekend because of injury and Ben Street likely out for the season with a knee injury, the Badgers are down to 12 healthy forwards, although Eaves said Turnbull and Davies could play if it was the playoffs and the team needed them.
But this is as much a message to Turnbull and Davies, whostruggled last weekend, as it is a chance to get Hickey and Bardis in the lineup. The Badgers had been considering a redshirt for Hickey, but that will be off the table once he dresses for Friday's game.
"It's just what our team needs right now," Eaves said.
Here's how the lineup is expected to look in the series opener against the Huskies:
Murray-Geoffrion-Bohmbach
Mitchell-Dolan-Gorowsky
P. Johnson-Thurber-Stepan
Hickey-Bendickson-Bardis
Smith-McBain
McDonagh-Goloubef
Gardiner-Little
** Also Thursday, Blake Geoffrion won the team's weekly shootout contest, beating Cody Goloubef, Derek Stepan and Patrick Johnson in the final.
** Games set to air locally in Madison on WISC-TV/Ch. 3 or My Madison TV also will be carried around the state on Time Warner (Channel 32) and Charter (Channel 87). In La Crosse, those games will air on WKBT-TV. The first such instance is Saturday's game against Michigan Tech.
