It turns out the people who built the new basketball floor for the Kohl Center will have to replace it because they painted it the wrong shade of red.
As long as they're at it, they might want to repaint the three-point lines, too.
With the men's 3-point line a foot farther out this season and the women's distance staying the same, the dual three-point lines are already creating confusion. The color of the lines at the Kohl Center — the women's is black, the men's a pale white — make it even more confusing.
The men's line, in particular, could be a problem. Since the wood floor is a lighter shade than the old floor and the line is a very pale white, it could cause some confusion for referees as they try to decipher whether a shot should count two or three points.
And since most players wear white shoes, it could be a problem for referees whether they're making the initial call and a decision based on replay.
When the new floor comes, the men's line should be a brighter white or — how this for an idea? — red. Maybe this time it will even be the correct shade.
