University of Wisconsin starting senior linebacker Jonathan Casillas was cited last month for drunken driving while riding a moped in the UW-Madison campus area, according to court records.

Details about the incident were not available Tuesday, but according to copies of three citations that Casillas received, he was stopped by a UW-Madison police officer on Aug. 24 at 1:26 a.m. on West Dayton Street at North Charter Street.

A preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol concentration to be 0.15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 for drivers in Wisconsin.

In addition to a first-offense drunken driving citation, Casillas, 21, of New Brunswick, N.J., was also cited for driving with a prohibited alcohol concentration and driving with two persons on a moped.

The passenger on the moped was not identified in the citations.

UW football coach Bret Bielema said after Tuesday's practice he already has dealt with the matter and Casillas faces no more disciplinary measures.

"We handled that the same way as any alcohol or drug (violation)," said Bielema, who did not elaborate. Bielema said the case does not fall under the UW student-athlete discipline policy.

"It doesn't enact," he said.

"We've had three (of these cases) since I've been the head coach," Bielema said. "The biggest thing I was concerned about was his overall safety."

Casillas missed the first two games with a sprained knee but returned during the 13-10 win Saturday night at Fresno State. He tied for second on the team with seven tackles. He is scheduled to appear in court on the citations on Friday.

First-offense drunken driving is a civil forfeiture in Wisconsin, not a crime. It carries a fine of $150 to $300 plus a $355 surcharge. It also carries a driver's license suspension or revocation of six to nine months. — Tom Mulhern contributed to this story.
