The University of Wisconsin women's soccer team got off to a slow start Sunday and, as a result, the Badgers are off to a slow start in Big Ten Conference play.
After dorping their season-opener Friday to Illinois, the Badgers mustered just one shot in the first half against Purdue and fell 1-0 to the Boilermakers at McClimon Soccer Complex.
Loredana Riverso scored on a ball that deflected off UW goalkeeper Jamie Klages with 13 minutes left in the first half for the only goal of the game and Riverso's fifth of the season. Purdue had three shots to the one for UW (6-4-1, 0-2).
The Badgers took it up a notch in the second half, starting out the period with a series of corner kicks, shots on goal and a narrow save by Klages, who ended up with five on the game. The momentum shifted in favor of UW, which outshot Purdue 9-6 and had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Badgers hit the road for the next two games Friday at Ohio State and Sunday at Penn State.
