A quick-hit recap of Ohio State's 20-17 victory over the University of Wisconsin football team Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium:
Player of the game
Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor. For the second week in a row, Wisconsin had to deal with a spread-option quarterback. And for the second straight week, Wisconsin was able to contain said quarterback, but not when it mattered most. Terrelle Pryor was able to manage the game and lead his team to the victory in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. It was his legs that saved the day for Buckeye fans, as Pryor scampered to the end zone on an 11-yard run with 1:08 left in the game.
Overall, Pryor was by no means a superstar, and the Badgers were able to get to him early and often — the team had four sacks for a total loss of 24 yards. But Pryor had the last laugh, and his 144 passing yards and 57 rushing yards were enough for OSU to leave Camp Randall the victors.
"He is able to keep the ball in Ohio State's hands and be able to go down the field," UW coach Bret Bielema said. "Even after the negative yards on the first play, to be able to come back and execute that run, my hat goes off to him."
Play of the Game
Wisconsin quarterback Allan Evridge's interception. For the second week in a row, Evridge threw an interception that proved to be costly. Michigan returned a pick for a score, and Ohio State snuffed out the Badgers' last hope with an INT.
On the first play from scrimmage after OSU's drive to take the lead, Evridge took the snap, scrambled to his left, and tried to thread a pass to tight end Travis Beckum. However, cornerback Malcolm Jenkins was ready and waiting and easily stepped in front of Beckum to make the interception, sealing an Ohio State victory.
"I just dropped back and didn't want to take a sack so I was trying to check it down and just didn't see Jenkins," Evridge said. "That's my job and I have to see him and they came and made a great play. It's frustrating."
Frustrating doesn't explain the half of it, as the Badgers are 0-2 to open the Big Ten schedule, and will have to play Penn State next week, who will undoubtedly be ranked higher than its current ranking of No. 6 in the nation.
Thumbs Up
John Clay. For the second week in a row, Clay earns the prestigious "Thumbs Up" award. Clay led Wisconsin with 69 yards rushing on only 10 carries. After last week's performance, in which Clay raked up 52 yards on three carries, the Wisconsin coaching staff came through on their promise to play Clay more. Clay has definitely taken over as the No. 2 back on the depth chart, and has become an important part of the Wisconsin offense, perhaps its most lethal part.
"He's productive. He really energized everybody that was out there, he energized the crowd," Bielema said. "He made some really good runs and as we know he is a very powerful back."
Compared to starting running back P.J. Hill, who had 64 yards on 16 carries, Clay was just as productive on six fewer carries.
