The University of Wisconsin Badgers women's basketball team's 64-44 opening game loss to South Dakota State was truly a team effort. But Rae Lin D'Alie couldn't help but shoulder more than her share of the responsibility.

That's part of the deal when you're the team captain, point guard and most experienced player. It's part of the deal when your personal stat line shows eight turnovers and just two assists and the team's turnover/assist ratio is 23/5. Ouch.

"It was definitely a rough night," said D'Alie, who studied the game tape three times before Tuesday's practice. "I've got to do a better job of getting my teammates the ball.

"Right after the game I was really upset. I, in particular, have to do better. I'm trying to be a leader out here, and I have eight turnovers. We talked about a lot of the stuff that went wrong, and you just have to bounce back and put it behind. It's nothing that can't be fixed."

Coach Lisa Stone appreciates D'Alie's angst and her willingness to accept responsibility, but was quick to point out that the turnover problem was a teamwide issue.

"We have to do this together," she said. "Five assists to 23 turnovers doesn't cut it. Our assist-to-turnover ratio has to be positive. We simply have to take better care of the basketball."

Ed had better dust up his resume because i think his wife will be out of a job at the end of the season...

same old same old...new assistant coaches won't and aren't making the difference...they don't manage the game, the practices, the development of players (or lack there of) and make substitutions...Lisa does...

and the games and issues the badgers have seem like the movie "ground hog day"...same issues year after year...the only constant is STONE!

I would have to agree with the "n" - no Badger Womens' basketball until she is gone. Won't attend, won't watch and won't read about it anymore.
