The Wisconsin Badgers women's hockey team received letters of intent for 2009 from forwards Brianna Decker (Dousman), and Breann Frykas (East St. Paul, Manitoba), defender Saige Pacholok (Edmondton, Alberta) and goaltender Becca Reugsegger (Fairbault, Minn.), coach Mark Johnson announced.
"All of them have played at an international level whether it was with Canada or the United States, so I think that goes well with the transition to college," Johnson said. "They are all very good players with sound academics. They will all fit in well and will be counted on to play."
Decker, a senior at Shattuck St. Mary's, has 46 goals and 28 assists in just 20 games this season. She has been a member of the U.S. Women's U18 Team and the 2008 U.S. Select Team.
Ruegsegger also plays at Shattuck St. Mary's where she has a 13-3-1 record in goal with a 2.65 goals-against average. She played for the U.S. Women's U18 Select Team and the U.S. Women's National U18 Team.
Pacholok was a member of Team Alberta in the 2007 National Women's U18 Championship and the Canada Winter Games.
Frykas has been a member of Team Manitoba since 2007, playing in the 2007 National Women's U18 Championship, and was a member of Canada's National Women's Team in 2007.
Also, UW sophomore forward Hilary Knight was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association offensive player of the week after scoring six points in UW's weekend series at North Dakota.
