The University of Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team didn't do itself any favors Friday night when it got swept 3-0 by Illinois which put a serious dent in its chances to land an NCAA tournament berth.
Illinois won 25-18, 25-16, 25-23 to improve to 23-7 overall and 14-5 in the Big Ten.
The Badgers (17-14, 7-12) have now dropped five of their last six matches.
"I think we have to get that win if we want to get into the NCAA tournament," said UW coach Pete Waite of his team's match vs. Purdue Saturday night. "If we don't get it, we probably don't deserve it this year. And that's unfortunate to say, but it's something that everybody strives for and wants to be there. And this team had those goals at the beginning of the year, but I don't think any of them realize the consistency and the level of play you have to sustain in the Big Ten."
Caity DuPont led the Badgers with 11 kills and Brittany Dolger had 10. Janelle Gabrielson had 21 assists and Nikki Klingsporn had 19.
Wisconsin will face 18th-rnaked Purdue Saturday night at the Field House in Madison.
