The University of Wisconsin football team continued to shore up its defensive line with an oral commitment from Conor O'Neal, a defensive tackle from Newsome High School in Lithia, Fla.

O'Neal is the 19th known commitment for the Badgers' 2009 recruiting class and the seventh member of the defensive line. He is the third potential recruit from Florida. UW previously received a commitment from linebacker Conor O'Neill from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The 6-foot-3, 295-pound O'Neal picked UW over Boston College and North Carolina State. He also had offers from Buffalo, Michigan State and Georgia Southern.

"I really liked the coaches," O'Neal said on a blog on the St. Petersburg Times' Web site. "They're a good group of guys, a family-oriented group of guys. And I like what (head) coach (Bret) Bielema has done over there the past couple of years."

O'Neal had 35 tackles, including 26 solos, and six sacks in 12 games as a senior. He also started at center for an offense that rushed for 2,044 yards.

"I played both ways in high school," he told the Times' Web site. "I like playing D-line. I like playing O-line. I'll play whatever gets me to college."

The signing day is Feb. 4.
